Rules Version

Living Rule Book (LRB) 5.0

Optional Rules

The Illegal Procedure rule will not be used unless both coaches expressly agree on it before the game starts. Overtime will not be used.

Teams Allowed

Only those teams listed in the LRB will be permitted.

Star Players, Freebooters, Wizards, Halfling Chefs Apothecaries and Necromancers

Only Goblin, Halfling and Ogre teams may take star players, at their normal price.

Wizards are permitted at a cost of 150,000 gold crowns.

Halflings may take a master chef for 100,000 gold crowns.

Teams allowed an apothecary may take one at a cost of 50,000 gold crowns

Necromancers may use Raise the Dead (the player is not added to the roster after the match, though)

Team Value

All competitors have 1,000,000 gold crowns with which to create their team. Any unspent amount is kept in the Treasury but may not be used during the tournament. Therefore it’s a good idea to spend it all.

Please have two copies of your team roster available. One of these will be left with the umpire.

Match Schedule

Each coach will compete in 6 matches over the course of the weekend. The first round is random, after which the Swiss system will be used. Pairings with be modified to avoid players playing the same opponent more than once.

The matches are scheduled as follows:

Friday.

Game 1: Once you arrive on Friday first check in and drop any baggage off in your room (if applicable). Once you are ready to play, make your presence known to the umpires in the main gaming hall who will then register you as available. From 4pm, and at regular intervals after that, players will be randomly drawn (from those available) and paired up. Once paired up, find your opponent and start your game as soon as you are able. The last opportunity to start playing is 9pm.

Saturday.

Game 2: 10:00am to 12:15am

Game 3: 01:15pm to 03:30pm

Game 4: 03:45pm to 06:00pm

Sunday:

Game 5: 10:00am to 12:30pm

Game 6: 02:00pm to 04:30pm

Each game has been allocated 2 hours 15 mins (Sat) or 2 hours 30 mins (Sun) to be played in. An announcement will be made after half of the allotted time has elapsed, by which time you should have started the second half or be about to. If you have not started by then it is suggested that you increase the speed of your play. If one player is taking an excessively long time over their turns then please inform the umpire.

Team Advancement

Part of the fun of playing Bloodbowl is to be able to progress your team’s skills and abilities through the tournament. The following system will be used in place of the league style Star Player Points:

After Game 1 you may select any 2 players and give each of them a skill that they would normally be allowed to take. You may also select a 3rd player and give them a skill that they would be allowed to take only on a “double” skill roll (you may take a third “normal” skill instead, if you wish).

After Game 3 you may select any 2 players and give each of them a skill that they would normally be allowed to take. You may also select a 3rd player and give them a skill that they would be allowed to take only on a “double” skill roll (you may take a third “normal” skill instead, if you wish). Note that you cannot give these skills to players who have already received a skill after Game 1.

After Game 5 you may give a “double” skill to any player on your team who has not already received an extra skill in this tournament OR you may give a “normal” skill to any player on your team (even those who have already received an extra skill)

All rosters are “reset” after each match to wipe off injuries and deaths. All skills/traits gained are kept and cannot be changed once selected.

Tournament Points

At the end of each match, work out the scores of each player and enter them on the results slips. Both coaches should check and sign the results slip before handing it in. Note that the sum of the two player’s scores will always equal 32. Once entered, then mistakes are not likely to be amended later so please get it right first time. Note that the maximum score available is 32 points and the minimum score available is 0 point.
