FLAMES OF WAR Competition Rules

Umpire and List Checker: Mick Auty

Welcome to the fourth Britcon Flames of War event. This year's event is again sponsored by Kerr & King, who will supply every entrant at this year's event with a one off casting. Details to be posted later on this. The company has also teamed up with the British Historical Games society to make this a national event.

The rules for entering this year's event are as described below.

The event will be split in to two periods, a mid war and a late war period. All competitors can choose which of these periods they would like to enter, and for both the same rules apply. However we may have to ask some players to move to even up the event. So please put a preference.

Each player needs to bring with them a fully painted 2000 point army based on any of the published books. Please note that Ostfront and Afrika have now superseded the older mid-war books.

Players need to compile only the one list, but remember the list may have to both attack and defend. All lists must comply with legal listings in each book.

No special characters are to be used.

Each player will submit a copy of his / her intended lists to be checked by the period umpire before 1st August 2008, to allow them time to return any lists that need attention prior to the event. Any player submitting his / her lists after this date will not be allowed to win any of the prizes in the event itself.

The Yorkshire Sneaky Gitz and backstabbers, along with Kerr & King will be supplying 20 tables of scenery. These will be 10 tables in each period. Players are asked to bring with them 4 pieces of scenery to assist with making up the other tables (if needed depending on number of entrants.) Or as an alternative some clubs may wish to provide whole tables worth of scenery.

All tables will be pre set and will remain so throughout the event. Can we remind players that they will likely encounter a varied array of table layouts, which will include, SNOW, FIELDS, TOWNS, DESERT, to name but a few, so ensure you take this in to account when planning your lists.

The showing of your list to your opponent before a game is NOT compulsory but any troops with special abilities must be pointed out before hand. If you have to keep troops back in reserve, then you should nominate before rolling, which units you are trying to bring on.

The scoring system will be used as devised by FOW guru Paul Scrivens-Smith, and allow 32-0 point system to be used to complement the BHGS system. This is the same scoring system which was used successfully last year. Details of this system will be published later, for those who have not previously used it.

Players must be present and ready to start the match at the appointed time. Where a player has a reasonable excuse for arriving late the match start will be delayed by up to 30 minutes, after which time the effected player will be awarded a bye and 32 points. No player will be awarded more than one bye for any reason.

Any player(s) who turns up for any game in the opinion of the event organisers or umpires drunk and incapable of playing will forfeit the game(s) and will not be allowed to win any prizes. Please remember players are paying a lot of money and travelling long distances to have a good time, so let's not spoil the weekend.

The combat missions played will be taken from official FOW rule books, enabling all players' equal chance to play them and practice before the event. The missions will be fixed and both late and mid war tables will be playing the same missions at the same time. This allows the umpires to keep track of what is going on, and ensuring a smoother event. At the start of each game a random selection made by the Kerr and King boys will determine the next scenario.

Admission to the tournament is at the sole discretion of the organisers and their decision on all matters is final. An application to enter denotes acceptance of the rules. Entry fees and any queries to be addressed to the BHGS, The White Cottage, 8 Westhill Ave, Epsom, KT19 8LE. Tel. 01372  812132.  Fax.
