THE BRITISH HISTORICAL GAMES SOCIETY present BRITCON 2011 |
|
WAB 2010
To assist in this goal, a relatively ‘tight’ time frame of published supplements will be used.
The event will utilize the “ABC” system of army selection. In essence all armies, no matter how tough the selection, will be considered a fair army.
A copy of your army list needs to be submitted by Sunday 31st July, please submit them to Paul Scrivens-Smith, either by email : smith.paul18@sky.com or by post to: 32 Blackmires Way, Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire NG17 4JQ.
If emailing your army list, please send in Word (.doc or .docx), Excel (.xls or .xlsx), Acrobat (.pdf), Rich Text (.rtf) or Text (.txt) format is preferred.
Game 1 is the standard battle with Hidden Deployment to eight complete turns.
Game 2 is the standard battle with Hidden Deployment to seven complete turns. There are no table quarters for this scenario, an objective will be placed by the umpire on the centre line of the table, after seven complete turns, count the number of figures within 8” of the objective centre (some figures in a unit may be within whereas other unit members will not count). If one side has at least three times the opponents total then they will receive 500 bonus VPs, if they have at least twice as many they will receive 300 bonus VPs. If they have more figures they will receive 100 bonus VPs.
Game 3 is the standard battle with Hidden Deployment to eight complete turns.
Game 4 is the standard battle with Hidden Deployment to when Army break point is reached.
Game 5 is the standard battle to eight complete turns. There are no table quarters for this scenario, when totaling Victory Points lost and wounded characters count double their point’s value, for example a General worth 140pts would normally give 240pts if lost, in this game it would count as 380pts (140 x 2 + 100).
Game 6 is the standard battle with Hidden Deployment to seven complete turns.
When time is called please complete the current pair of player turns, this will be 2.5 hours after the advertised starting time of the game.
All games will use the standard battle rules and hidden deployment will be used.
In games when Army Break Point applies, remember to calculate your Break Point after deployment but before the battle commences.
In all games, players are allowed to deploy up to 12” inches in from the base line and each table edge. After deployment but before dicing for first turn, players may make a bonus 4” skirmisher move, nomad cavalry move, etc. It is advised that players alternate making these moves with the player with the most units to move making the first move.
All terrain will be set by the umpire, if you can volunteer to bring a table or two of terrain, then please let me know.

Paul Scrivens-Smith will be the umpire for this event.
In the event of a rules debate, which seems unanswerable, roll a D6 each time the situation occurs.
Please check the rulebooks; most answers are there.
If an umpire is asked to make a ruling, that decision is binding.
Please remember “It’s Only a Game of Toy Soldiers”.
Umpires are free to interrupt any game to clarify or point out mistakes to players.
The rules used will be the current version of Warhammer Ancient Battles 2.0, together with the following clarifications & rules issued by Warhammer Historical:
Warhammer Ancient Battles Errata: http://warhammer-historical.com/PDF/WAB2%20Errata.pdf
Warhammer Ancient Battles Supplements Errata: http://warhammer-historical.com/PDF/WAB2superrata.pdf
If a player resigns from a game at any stage, after the first dice for any purpose has been rolled, their opponents will be awarded 32 – 0 victory. It’s worth noting that no matter how desperate your game is getting, you may have scored vital points, and it is recommended that you play through to the end.
After the first game, if a player arrives more than 5 minutes late for the start of a game, they will count as lost 100 Victory points for each full 5 minutes that they are late, so if you arrive 30 minutes late for you game you are looking at a 600 point deficit.
After the call for the last 10 minutes of playing time please endeavor to even up the turn numbers.
If found cheating or playing in an abusive or aggressive manner we have the right to either apply a points deduction or ask you to leave the event.
It’s simple, just choose the army you want to take, look at your options, and decide what you are going to take.
In the absence of an official set of tournament army lists, we will be using the ever ‘popular’ ABC system again for this event.
All armies are categorized according to how ‘tough’ they are. This of course is a subjective area (one man’s ‘cheese’ is another’s history), however players should be aware that these categories are put together by a group of experienced WAB players, and whilst not perfect they will produce fairer games than not using the ABC system.
Put simply, the tougher your army is, the fewer points you get to spend!
It has the added advantage of cutting out (in theory) grumblings about “His army had such and such super unit in” If an army does have super combinations of troops, you can be rest assured that the player will have already paid the penalty with the ABC system.
ABC for this event will be;
A = 1800pts
B = 2000pts
C = 2200pts
In addition A+ armies are subject to an additional 100pts deduction (1700pts), C- armies are subject to a bonus 100pts (2300pts)
No army may field more than three War Machines (Stone Throwers, Ballista, etc) this is in addition to any restrictions within the army lists.
Please note the tournament will NOT be allowing special characters or optional rules from the various supplements.
The Armies available with their notes and restrictions are:
Rule Book
Alexander the Great
Hannibal
Spartacus
Art of War
Thirty three army choices in total!
Admission to the tournament is at the sole discretion of the organisers and their decision on all matters is final. An application to enter denotes acceptance of the rules.
