PoW at Britcon 2008
This year at Britcon we are trying out a new format for the weekend, instead of running a competition, we are looking at running a series of games linking them ‘Campaign’ style.
For the 2008 show we are looking at a Sudan Game set in the 1980’s, the format will be two teams ‘Anglo Egyptian’ and ‘Sudanese’ each of these teams will be split into pairs of players. This will allow us to fight the games on 5 foot by 12 foot table, with the figures being organised by the Umpire (i.e. Me)
The Scenario will be built around the relief of Khartoum with Egyptian armies (later supported by British troops) starting from Egypt, Suakin and Darfur, and the Dervishes having a series of Battlefields to defend to prevent these forces breaking through.
I am aiming to fight have four battles over the weekend (Friday Night – Saturday AM – Saturday PM and Sunday) but the games will be longer allowing for larger armies to be used ,and the games to be fought through to a conclusion.
After each battle dependant upon the results the armies will move onto the next Senario, with the players rotating commands.
If all goes well year one and players wish to continue with this format I would like to run a Napoleonic 1809 campaign (as it will be the 200 year aneversary and I know we have a number of French and Austrian Armies available between our regular players.)
